Alex, at first I would like to say thank you very much for being part of this “Gimme 5 Special: Bass Player”! Here we go:
In which age did the music „catch“ you, and when did you start to play an instrument? At the age of six, my parents introduced me to the discipline that is the piano. It was an instrument I took a bit too seriously as I never decided to improvise with it. My focus was purely about perfecting sheet music and posture. I didn't think much of it at the time as my main hobbies were football, hockey and tennis.
Did you choose the bass guitar as your instrument right away or did you check out one or more other ones at first? Although the bass guitar is a very dedicated instrument, the piano is one of the greatest musical platforms to get started with whether you play a stringed or a blowing instrument. The understanding of dynamics can really enhance your approach to any style of music. I never really considered other instruments in all honesty. All other instruments didn't seem cool enough. *hehe*

How many bass guitars do you own, and which model is your favourite generally? I picked up a 4 string at the age of eleven which happened to have been one of the GSR series by Sound Gear (Ibanez). A year later, after working all summer, I bought my first six string. It was an SR406 also by Ibanez. I currently own three six string Sound Gear basses. One of which I've recently had de-fretted.
ESP and Warwick basses have been part of my arsenal over the years but nowhere near as consistent. Got to love the flat neck! It gives you a real chance to get comfortable with it and have a good grip on it as well. It does half the work for me. My German amps tend to do the rest ;-)
What do you think: is it a must for a bass player to have an especially hot sense of rhythm in his/her blood to deliver an ideal job? ;-) Rhythm is what makes you move to any song whether it's Prog Rock or Reggae. I think any great bass player would be able to adapt his/her playing style to anything thrown at them. I've thankfuly had many cultures exposed to me when growing up from Soca music to Blues. It's always nice to express your culture through music. The bass guitar just happens to be one of the most cultural of them all.
What is on the plan for you and Furyon in the next weeks/months? Furyon is currently in the writing stages of our second studio album. We've had a fair amount of soul searching to do since the departure of our lead guitarist recently but I can assure you that Furyon will always be there to push the boat out whoever is involved. I can't wait to show off the new stuff!
Thanks for your time. We wish you and the band all the best! Thank you very much for having me. Danke!
